Performing in the Air Show Industry

Tips for Performer Success at ICAS

What Doesn't Kill You...

The beginning years as an ICAS member and exhibitor can be very difficult. You are faced with rejection, financial issues, and aircraft maintenance. Of course the only time you need a new prop is the week before your one and only performance of the year. Weather often won't cooperate, especially for those of you that reside North of 49°. Obtaining insurance can be challenging. The list of reasons to quit gets longer all the time.

What?... Be Thankful?

At times like these, there is one glaring fact you may not be aware of. Your most creative solutions will come to you when you are struggling. Be thankful for the challenge. When everything is going smoothly, the challenge isn't there anymore and people tend to get complacent. In those early years as a performer the reasons you persevere are more valid than ever before. In fact, this is the time you need to remind yourself of those reasons. This is the time you must dig deep, and find that determination you've carried with you since you took that very first flight.

Find An Air Show Mentor

I hate to get all ‘Tony Robbins’ on you, but... It is easier to weather the storm if you have someone who can talk to you from a position of authority. There is not a successful Air Show Performer in the industry that has not had some kind of difficulty that you can identify with. Communication can make a world of difference to your success.
